Set up as a home for some of the freshest, most exciting producers in the scene, Future Funk Music was up as sub-label to the mighty Mindtech Recordings. With a mission to find Neurofunk’s stars of tomorrow, the Belgium based label has seen releases from the likes of Myselor, Human Error, Dub Head, Disept and L33 all putting their stamp on the thriving DnB scene. Not just a smaller sibling to Mindtech, Future Funk Music has become a breeding ground for creativity - gaining a following in its own right by giving fresh talent a chance.
Now taking the reins for the next exciting chapter of the Future Funk Music story, Minor Rain delivers 4 tracks of precise, innovative bass music. Despite only starting his production career in 2009, Minor Rain has gone from strength to strength, already picking up releases on the likes of Dispatch, Renegade Hardware and Samurai Music in the process. Starting with the deadly ‘Villain’ and winding ‘Main Core’ as well as the deep ‘Placebo’ and intricate ‘Tripod’, the latest on Future Funk Music represents four examples of cutting edge Neurofunk.
Villain
After a twisted, introduction full of warped vocals and shifting percussion, ‘Villain’ builds into a track designed to kill the rave. Dropping into a wall of contorted, metallic bass and vicious drums, Minor Rain switches things up throughout, maintaining interest - as well as that infectious groove.
Main Core
On the flipside, ‘Main Core’ shifts gears with a pulsing, submerged bass driving things forward. Combining elements of tribal beats, programmed drums and a stuttering rhythm, ‘Main Core’ is a great example of Future Funk Music’s ability to put out groundbreaking, forward-thinking music.
Placebo (Digital Only)
The first of two digital only tracks, ‘Placebo’ takes things on a very different path. Stripped back with only the essential elements remaining, Minor Rain proves that less can be more. Featuring complex bass, clean drums and a thick atmosphere, ‘Placebo’ is worth more than the sum of its parts.
Tripod (Digital Only)
The final digital only track, ‘Tripod’ transports the listener to another landscape. Combining elements of glitch with Minor Rain’s high level production and a large dose of atmosphere, the future-tribal sounds of ‘Tripod’ show yet another facet to Minor Rain’s already versatile production.
